I’ve been commuting lately (during the week) from Orange City to near-downtown Orlando now for nearly 3 months. I’ve seen bumper-stickers on trucks and cars that say simply “I-4 Sucks”.

In all fairness, I’ve only been commuting for a short time in the Orlando area, and comparative commutes have been short distances or “against the flow”.

The only access between the two towns is, I-4. Yesterday, I found out just why “I-4 Sucks”. In just a little over 2 hours, I traveled 5 miles. Not by choice of course. Because a tractor-trailer caught on fire on I-4.

I certainly hope the driver didn’t plan that, and I’m sure no one else enjoyed it either, but 3 hours to travel 35 miles!?!

FHP redirected traffic off of I-4 to the side streets. So why didn’t local police get involved on the side streets to direct traffic flow? Too busy busting petty thieves and drug dealers? May be we can’t spare the authorities to make a bad situation better. May be, just may be, they could take a little action to relieve traffic congestion. Guess not!

Too much attention to politics and/or too little concern for the tax payer? You decide!
